Baby Shower? No Problem man!

So if you’ve been following me on Twitter you know that today my workplace threw a baby shower for one of our co-workers.

I have to say it was a resounding success (if I don’t say so myself).

I have no kids so needless to say I needed to turn to various Twitter friends for baby advice.  It seems everyone loves a baby shower – because I got so much advice that I was even told that I’m the most educated non-Mom that  my friends and co-workers know!

Thanks Tweeps  – because of you I was able to build a diaper cake with my two good friends, Lucy and Sophia, that rocked the Mommy-to-be’s (for the second time) world….and that gained the attention of my entire office!

Also, thank you for all the suggestions and opinions on what type of cupcakes to make for the baby shower.  I baked A LOT this weekend – in the end I made quite a few different things.  I did two basic cupcakes – a lemon sour cream cupcake and a chocolate buttermilk cupcake.

On the lemon sour cream I did two different types of icing – a lemon zest butter-cream (yummy – I still have some in my freezer!) and a blueberry compote butter-cream (yes I also made the blueberry compote from scratch).

On the chocolate buttermilk cupcake I did a cream-cheese butter-cream.

Then I decorated them with little binkies from the dollar store and edible star sprinkles, and placed them on my 3-tier cupcake stand that the baby shower gave me a convenient excuse to buy.

These went down very well with the co-workers needless to say.

I also had a fully masked carrot cake with raisins and pineapple inside and cream cheese frosting…..and surprisingly, the “healthy” cake finished first!  Then one of my co-workers (who shall go unnamed at this point) licked the plate clean…seriously…crumbs and all…

I feel really good.

Apparently I bake good….and yes I’m taking orders now (seriously!) if you’re in the GTA area….I’m also taking orders for diaper cakes.

I wasn’t the only one who provided stuff for this shower, however, the lady with whom I was organizing the baby shower cooked lunch for everyone.  I’ve not seen that much food in a long time.  She cooked so much that we offered lunch to the three other departments as well as the real estate agents who rent space in our building and still had left overs!  She made this delicious Afghani rice and chicken …yummy…I at e way too much.  She had woken up at 5 am to make it!!

Otherwise, we managed to get most of the office dressed in green and yellow to match the decor and we played a few games – guess how many q-tips and cotton balls in the bottle and then of course we had everyone cut ribbon to guesstimate the size of the pregnant belly.  The games were fun – remember I work in an architectural office – the second game in particular was quite amusing with verbal jabs flying back and forth across the room about not being able to estimate a distance etc.

All in all, I believe everyone had a grand time – but I’m glad it’s over.  It’s been stressing me for two weeks – I’ve never made such frequent trips to the dollar store and to the supermarket and I’ve never in my life battled the Saturday evening Walmart crowd when there’s a huge sale on diapers…..and I never will again…

So I just wanted to say thank you to the silent helpers and supporters in the Twitterverse and Blogging World who were behind me every step of the way and who gave me tips, opinions and a much needed shoulder to rest on (not to cry on – just to rest on).   I didn’t ask anyone’s permission to put up photos on my blog so I’m not featuring any photos in this blog of people involved….for obvious reasons…(for those of you to whom it’s not obvious, not everyone likes their photos online!!).

And now? Now I sleep.  Have a good night :)
