Another awesome Memoire Meme from the Red Dress Club
AFFECTION
I consider myself an affectionate person.
Even my mother has said I’m her “huggable” child for as long as I could remember. She doesn’t mean I’m delightfully plump (even if I am), she means that I’m comfortable and cuddly to hug.
Even my husband tells me I’m “huggable” (although he may have gotten the word from my mother). Of course I love it when he hugs me!!
I have equally huggable friends – in particular, my besties from high school in Trinidad.
My group of friends from Naparima Girls’ High School consists of six amazing (now) women.
Alisa (a.k.a. Lisa)
Denise (a.k.a Den)
Katrina (a.k.a. Kats)
Kavita (a.k.a. Granny)
Sasha (a.k.a. Sash)
Vashti (a.k.a Vash).
So we weren’t that hot at the nicknames back then – so sue us.
What we were good at was showing affection.
Even though we went to school together we’d call each other the moment we got home. And if we happened to see each other that day again, we’d run together in a big hug as if we haven’t seen each other in years!
Now, everyone has grown up, everyone has moved apart, into different countries and different lives.
We still love each other as much as we did then – and we act as if no time has passed when we meet again.
We are still good at showing love and affection to those that deserve them (and sometimes even those that don’t).
The best part is that we still run and hug each other as exuberantly as we did so many years ago – and it’s something I hope never changes.
